Empowering the Young in Afghanistan Through Sport: A Successful Year of Growth and Engagement

On September 15, 2024, Jameghor Charity Organization (JCO) and Rebuild Aid successfully concluded the “Empowering the Young in Afghanistan Through Sport” project, an impactful year-long initiative launched in Ghor province. Supported by funding from the GLOBUS-puljen, the project targeted 60 young people, ages 14-17, from two high schools in Firozkoh city, aiming to build their skills through sports, education, and social engagement.

Project Overview

The project, which began on September 16, 2023, used football as a powerful tool to bring students together and develop essential life skills. The initiative involved the youth in three main activities:

  1. Sports Training – Weekly football sessions over eight months promoted teamwork, discipline, and physical well-being.
  2. IT and English Training – Over the winter break, students received specialized IT and English courses to enhance their educational prospects.
  3. Volunteer Engagement – Workshops on social responsibility introduced participants to volunteerism, community service, and environmental care.

These sessions were not only geared toward skills development but also toward nurturing confidence, resilience, and community awareness among the youth.

Achievements and Impact

The project exceeded expectations, transforming young lives in Ghor province and laying a foundation for a brighter, more inclusive future. Participants reported improved communication skills, increased self-confidence, and stronger connections with their communities. Through partnerships with local schools, the sports federation, and educational offices, the project promoted sustainable growth and collaboration within the local community.

Community and Family Engagement

With the active involvement of the students’ families, local teachers, and community leaders, the project fostered a network of support around these young individuals. Many family members noted their pride in the positive changes they observed, with students taking the initiative to help their communities through volunteer work and leadership.

Looking Ahead

While the formal project has concluded, its impact continues. Many participants have expressed a commitment to carry forward the values of teamwork, dedication, and community service they developed during the project. Both JCO and Rebuild Aid are committed to supporting initiatives that empower Afghan youth and contribute to a sustainable, harmonious future.

BACK TO WORK!
