Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization (SUAO) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to improving the lives of vulnerable and marginalized communities across Afghanistan.
Established in 2014 by a group of experienced civil, cultural, and human rights activists, SUAO works to promote dignity, resilience, and equal opportunity in regions affected by poverty, displacement, and conflict.
Headquartered in Herat, with regional offices in Ghor, Badghis, and Kabul, SUAO focuses on humanitarian assistance, community development, education, healthcare, womenâs empowerment, and livelihoods.
The organization has built a strong reputation for accountability, local leadership, and operational capacity, collaborating with national and international partners including Rebuild Aid (Denmark), UNDP, DERF, and UNFPA.
SUAOâs mission is to create sustainable, community-driven solutions that improve well-being, promote human rights, and build long-term resilience. Its main programmatic areas include:
The partnership between SUAO and Rebuild Aid represents a long-term and deeply rooted collaboration between Afghanistan and the Afghan diaspora in Denmark. Together, the two organizations have implemented multiple humanitarian and development initiatives addressing the most urgent needs of Afghan communities while building local capacity for long-term recovery.
Funded through the DERF âForced Population Movement to Afghanistanâ call, this ongoing project assists 280 deported families who arrived from Iran and are stranded in Herat. SUAO provides cash assistance for urgent needs and legal support for 200 individuals to obtain national ID cards (Tazkira), ensuring access to essential services and protection. The project also coordinates with OCHA, UNHCR, and local authorities to ensure alignment and accountability.
A large-scale initiative funded by CISU (Civil Society Fund, Denmark), this project empowers youth and women in Herat through civic education, leadership training, and climate-smart livelihoods. It introduces eco-friendly agriculture, solar-powered irrigation, and greenhouse farming while strengthening youth participation and womenâs leadership in local governance. The program is implemented through a hub-based model to ensure safe participation for women and girls under current social restrictions.
Implemented under the DERF Rapid Response mechanism, this intervention delivered immediate life-saving assistance to families affected by the devastating Herat earthquake. SUAO coordinated assessments, distributed emergency kits, and supported hundreds of households with shelter and basic supplies.
Through CISUâs DERF-funded humanitarian program, SUAO delivered emergency food and non-food assistance to flood-affected communities in Ghor Province. The intervention also included cash support and protection components for vulnerable groups, particularly women-headed households and persons with disabilities.
With technical and financial support from Rebuild Aid, SUAO revitalized a womenâs handicraft and tailoring workshop that provides training, digital marketing support, and online sales opportunities for 15 women artisans. The project promotes womenâs self-reliance and connects traditional craftsmanship with modern e-commerce platforms.
SUAO, supported by Rebuild Aid, is advocating with Afghanistanâs Ministry of Education and Ministry of Public Health for the adoption of a national guideline restricting ultra-processed and sugary foods in schools. The project includes advocacy, stakeholder consultations, and awareness campaigns promoting healthy diets among students.
Under the GLOBUS Fund (formerly Reuse for the South) program, SUAO has received and distributed thousands of educational and medical items donated from Denmark. The materials have supported schools, hospitals, and rehabilitation centers for persons with disabilities across Ghor, Herat, Badghis, Farah, and Ghazni provinces.
SUAO operates with a strong commitment to transparency, inclusion, and accountability. The organization has developed over 20 institutional policies covering governance, financial management, safeguarding, gender equality, and community feedback. Its Community Feedback Mechanism (CFM) includes hotlines, complaint boxes, and digital reporting systems that ensure beneficiariesâ voices are heard and acted upon.
SUAO is also an active member of the UNHCR Protection Cluster and the Food Security and Agriculture Cluster (FSAC), regularly participating in coordination meetings and contributing data to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF) mechanisms in Herat and Ghor provinces.
The partnership between Rebuild Aid and SUAO continues to evolve, with shared goals of local leadership, gender equality, and sustainable humanitarian action. Together, we aim to:
Through our joint efforts, we strive to build a future where Afghan communities can recover from crises, rebuild their livelihoods, and shape their own path toward resilience and dignity.
