Implemented by Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization (SUAO) in partnership with Rebuild Aid, Denmark, and funded by the Danish Emergency Relief Fund (DERF), this project provided life-saving cash assistance and legal counseling to 280 deported Afghan families returning from Iran and Pakistan. With an estimated seven members per family, it directly benefited 1,960 individuals, meeting their most urgent economic and legal needs.
Following a sharp rise in forced returns, SUAO and Rebuild Aid conducted rapid field assessments at Milak (Nimroz), Islam Qala, and Herat city, documenting severe poverty, lack of shelter, and absence of ID documents among returnees. These findings formed the basis for DERF’s approval and the project’s launch.
After official registration with the Ministry of Economy, SUAO coordinated closely with the Herat Governor’s Office, Department of Economy, and Municipality to ensure transparent implementation — 30% in Karukh District and 70% in Herat city.
In Karukh, 84 families received cash support under local supervision; in Herat city, 196 families were assisted, including women-headed households, elderly persons, and people with disabilities.
Each family received cash support and legal guidance to help them obtain Afghan national IDs (Tazkira), enabling access to education, healthcare, and employment. All stages were monitored and endorsed by local authorities, who commended SUAO’s transparency and professionalism.
This initiative demonstrated effective Danish-Afghan humanitarian partnership, helping returnee families rebuild lives with dignity and hope.
